2008 Fort Worth Cats Team Set

Going through a container filled with team sets and I found this one of defunct Fort Worth Cats team. I remember picking this up at team shop in summer of 2009 when I vacationed DFW area. Never went to a game. Team started out in 2001 playing in Central Baseball League til 2005. They became part of independent American Association from 2006-2011 til they declared bankruptcy. Team sold to another owner who play a season in North American League then the final two in United Baseball League til the team AND UBL shut down. LaGrave Field, shown on this card, currently sits abandon. There was talk last year of reviving the team and the field. The location of the field is on Calhoun St and NW 7th St.
Team mascot is a black cat name Dodger. It goes back when they were minor league club of Brooklyn Dodgers in 1940s and 50s.

As for the team none of them able make it to the majors with 98% played indy ball. Here's are the players
Played for three more seasons last playing in 2011.
Only season with the Cats; played his final season the following year with two teams.
Played two season with the Cats; last playing season in 2012.
Former 13th round pick of Blue Jays played final two seasons with the Cats.
Played his final season the following year
Former 1st round pick of Padres played his final season of his career as member of the Cats. He's is currently assistant coach of Mississippi St.
Found little to no info on him. It was his only season with the Cats
Played his final season the following year
Played with the Cats til 2011, his final season of his playing career.
Spent remainder of his career in American Association and Atlantic League. Final season of his career in 2012.
Former 18th round pick of Dodgers; final playing season in 2011.
Was signed with A's playing 2009 and 2010 for organization getting high to Sacremento (AAA) before playing remainder of his career in the indies with final years of his career with Somerset Patriots of Atlantic League. He remained with the team as a pitching coach. I got this card signed when was playing for Midland (AA) in 2009.
Final year of his playing career in 2012
Final year of his career playing in 2012 bouncing between Atlantic League and Mexican League (AAA)
His final season of his playing career in 2009
Remained in indies til his final season of his career in 2012 returning for Cats when it was member of North American League.
His final year of his playing career.
Former 7th round pick of Blue Jays peaked at AA, 2008 was his final year of his playing career.
Played ball til 2013 spending his final years with Laredo Lemurs team of American Association.
Former 6th round pick of Phillies peaked at AA; remained with Cats the following year playing out his final year of his career.
2009 was his final year of his playing career playing for two teams.
Now down to the manager and coaches. Tredaway manage the Cats from 2008-2010. He's currently coach of 18U team. Autrey is a baseball coach for Corsicana HS team. Frsibie went to to coach various independent baseball teams. Then there's another coach....
Played 9 seasons in the MLB from 1940-60 with 5 clubs. A baseball-lifer becoming coach after his playing career including long stints with Senators/Rangers and Twins. Remained with Cats til 2010.

The final card of the set is....
the owner of Fort Worth Cats. He brought baseball back to Fort Worth with rebuilding of LaGrave Field on-top of the original one. Ran into financial trouble in defaulting on a loan with baseball field used as collateral. He sold the team in late 2011 then file bankruptcy the following year.

Interesting times of independent baseball team sets. I wonder if any teams from any indy baseball leagues still sell team sets currently. Meanwhile I also picked this up down there
Still got its original tag. Still a nice collectible.

  1. Mascot cards are cool. Cards of minor league mascots are even cooler. Dodger stole the show.

  2. That was a nice overview of the team. We have some great family memories going out to see the Cats. I hope they can make a comeback, the stadium is completely run down.
